Diversity, Equality and Inclusion

“I believe that fairness and equality for everyone must be at the heart of our business and society. For me this is a core belief”

John Tonkiss

At McCarthy Stone, we believe in treating all our employees with fairness and ensuring that everyone has an equal opportunity to contribute and grow.

We have sought to reinforce this belief with a strong Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policy, which highlights our commitments to creating an environment that enables every individual employee to be their authentic self, feel valued and able to perform at their best.

Training on the policy is available to all employees, via our corporate learning platform.

Equality, diversity and inclusion

We regard equality and fairness as a fundamental right of all our employees regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race or ethnic origin, age, colour, belief, religion, marital status, pregnancy and maternity.

Employees should be treated with dignity and respect and everyone is given an equal opportunity to reach their potential. Every employee is expected to support the Company to meet its commitment to provide equal opportunities in employment and avoid unlawful discrimination. We do not tolerate any acts of discrimination at any level, and all employees should feel confident in raising any concerns and have them dealt with quickly and sensitively.

The policy promotes equality and fairness and is designed to protect people from being discriminated against on the grounds of:

  • Age
  • Race, including colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin
  • Religion or belief
  • Sex
  • Sexual orientation
  • Disability
  • Gender reassignment
  • Marriage or civil partnership
  • Pregnancy and maternity

Engaging our employees in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

Engaging our employees in the issues of equality, diversity and inclusion is key for us. We want them to have a voice and be an active part of making us a business where everyone feels involved and included.

Employee listening groups, presentations and opinion surveys take place throughout the year with employees around the business.

We are committed to building an activist approach to equality, diversity and inclusion which continually raises the bar on our internal and external voice.

Our equality, diversity and inclusion activity and responsibilities are managed by the EDI Advisory Group, who report directly into the Executive Committee, ensuring the appropriate framework and governance exists, champions their use, and provides guidance and advice to the business.
