The Finalists of the McCarthy & Stone RIBA Re-imagine Ageing Competition

Tom Russell Associates were named the unanimous winner of McCarthy & Stone’s prestigious Re-imagine Ageing RIBA Design Competition, with a concept that challenges pre-conceptions around housing for older people.

Competition winner, Tom Russell expressed his delight at working with McCarthy & Stone to take his ideas forward. “What interested us most about this competition was the opportunity to fundamentally rethink housing for a new generation of older people. This is not a one-off build project – it is the chance to work with a national retirement developer to develop new ideas and practices.”

Our Group Marketing Director, Sam Turner said, “We have been delighted with the response received from architects and have been amazed by the wealth of creativity and visionary ideas for accommodation that we think will really appeal to our customers. Our intention was to identify design talent as much as a design concept.

We were so impressed with Tom Russell Architects that we immediately asked them to work with us on our on-going programme of innovation and are delighted to be forming a relationship with such a talented practice. We are also still in close contact with other architects that entered the competition as the quality of thinking and innovation about the retirement sector was truly inspirational.”
