FAQs for Volunteers
When you register to be a volunteer, you will be sent a welcome pack with all the information you will need to start volunteering with us - here are a few things that you might need to know before you receive your full pack.
Will I receive any training?
You will receive a welcome pack via email with helpful tips to help you with carrying out your volunteering role.
Will I receive support while I volunteer?
We will support you with any queries or concerns you may have regarding volunteering and there is a dedicated team to help you where needed. You can discuss your volunteering experience with them and share any issues or problems you might be facing. Plus, our development managers will be available once you have matched with a volunteering opportunity.
What about expenses?
All expenses likely to be incurred must be pre-approved prior to any expenditure or cost being incurred. If no pre-approval of likely expenses is obtained, McCarthy Stone reserves the right to not reimburse these expenses. Volunteers are not permitted to purchase items on behalf of a development or individual customers.
Am I covered by insurance?
As long as you have been approved or authorised by us first, you will be covered for the voluntary work that you do with us on developments.
What about safety?
We obviously don’t want our volunteers to do anything while volunteering that might be unsafe or harmful so you will be informed of our safe working practices when you start by the House Manager or Estate Manager at the development.
Are there security measures?
Depending on the volunteering opportunity, a DBS/ PVG/ Covid-19 vaccination may be required based on the level of validation. If a DBS/PVG is required, The McCarthy Stone Foundation will undertake this through the help of the charity who require the volunteering. No DBS or PVG checks will be performed without the prior approval of the volunteer. A DBS/ PVG may be required for some volunteering functions and checks will only be progressed by the dedicated volunteering support team for volunteers, where the volunteering activity has been identified as requiring a DBS/PVG check in accordance with the eligibility guidance issued by the barring service.
At McCarthy Stone, we embrace diversity. Our volunteers have different backgrounds, cultures, skills and experiences, as do the people they support.
All volunteer information is kept confidential within McCarthy Stone and the volunteering programme is managed by a dedicated team. As a volunteer, we will also expect you to maintain the confidentiality of any information you might handle during your time with us.
