In fact, in some of our developments, the heating costs for your apartment are now covered in your service charge, which means one less thing for you to worry about as you enjoy your retirement. We’re committed to introducing this feature across further developments in the future.
Reducing heat loss
Up to a third of the heat in a conventional house escapes through the external walls. Our apartments are designed so that most only have one external wall, which reduces this heat loss. We also make sure that all external walls and roof spaces are well insulated, which reduces heat loss further. And with double glazed windows and patio doors, the thermal efficiency of our developments helps keep the heat in during winter.
Efficient heating systems
Our apartments have energy efficient heating systems. Most of our apartments have electric storage heaters in the lounge and hallways. Storage heaters store heat during off peak times, when electricity is cheaper and slowly release it at a later time when you need it. Thermostatic controls on the heater also allow you to adjust temperatures to suit the weather. As part of our commitment to innovation, we’re also introducing systems such as underfloor heating in some apartments.
A thermal storage hot water system is installed in apartments on most developments. A thermal store is more energy efficient than a standard cylinder system. The water within the store is heated during off peak times, making the energy used to heat it cheaper.
Energy efficiency is at the heart of our developments
Energy efficiency also extends to some of the fittings in our developments. We put low energy light fittings throughout the development. Your kitchen is fitted with a fan-assisted oven, which is recognised as being more energy efficient than a conventional oven. We’re also introducing whole-house air extraction and supply systems. These remove wet air from bathrooms and kitchens and supply fresh tempered air to the rooms in your apartment.
