John and Joan Cook are among a growing number of retired people who are finding new properties on the internet.

When the couple were living in a remote cottage in Carmarthenshire, they felt isolated and yearned for somewhere more central. So they googled "retirement properties, Swansea" and hit on Morgan Court, a development by McCarthy & Stone in St Helen's Road.

They are delighted with their new low-maintenance apartment with its Careline emergency call system and connection to TV camera security at the main entrance of Morgan Court; and they love being within reach of the bustling city centre.

They are also delighted with the way they were treated by McCarthy & Stone staff when they opted for the part-exchange scheme.

Mrs Cook, 74, said: "The cottage proved difficult to sell due to unforeseen complications and we wouldn't have been able to sell it at all without part-exchange; and the sales staff were so helpful throughout whole process. They couldn't do enough for us."

Now that they are finally settled at Morgan Court, Mr and Mrs Cook are making the most of their new environment.

Mrs Cook said: "We always used to like coming to Swansea to the theatre and the cinema and now we can walk there.  We often go to the Grand. We're near the shops, near the sea, the bus station and the trains: we've got everything we want. We often go to the Grand. Where we were living before in Camarthenshire was very remote and we couldn't get to the buses at all. Not only that, it was an old cottage needing a lot of maintenance, and the garden was too big to look after. At Morgan Court, we don't have to worry about anything like that at all."

At Morgan Court, a maintenance team looks after gardening, repairs to the building and the upkeep of shared amenities. As well as the security systems, these include a communal lounge, a laundry room, a guest suite, and a lift to all floors.
