Yeovil was founded in the 8th century after the Saxons conquered this part of Somerset. The name Yeovil is believed to be a corruption of the Celtic word Gifl, meaning forked river.

Today Yeovil is a vibrant market town with a population of 40,000 situated at the Southern Boundary of Somerset, 130 miles from London and 40 miles south of Bristol.

Yeovil has excellent transport links with two railway stations. Yeovil Penn Hill is the closest station located 0.8 miles from Wyndham Court. The town centre bus station is located less than 0.4 miles away.

Yeovil Junction station is the home of the Yeovil Railway Centre which was formed in 1994 to preserve the original Southern Railway turntable. The charity also owns "Pectin", a Packett steam engine which is used on train days to provide public brake van rides.

The main shopping areas are located on Middle Street and Vicarage Walk, where the Quedam shopping centre is based. This modern pedestrian shopping precinct located less than 0.4 miles from the development recalls the town's Roman roots in its name, while housing many national retailers.

The town centre has a variety of High Street stores, independent retailers and cafes. Yeovil also offers two theatres, a multi-screen cinema, Yeovil Country Park, swimming pools and the impressive St. John's Church.
