New Assisted Living retirement apartments are planned for sale in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire

McCarthy & Stone pioneered the concept of private purpose built retirement housing in the UK over 30 years ago. An Assisted Living retirement development bridges the gap between more conventional retirement living and residential care or a nursing home, by offering a range of additional features designed to help residents retain their independence and importantly, for those in retirement, home ownership.

The Hertfordshire town of Welwyn Garden City is situated between Hatfield and Stevenage, 10 miles from the London boroughs of Barnet and Enfield.  Developed in 1920, it was one of the first towns designed to combine the benefits of the city and countryside.  It is just east of the A1 motorway, and north of the River Lee. The town offers excellent modern shopping, including the Howard Centre indoor shopping centre, and a large John Lewis department store.

There are two golf courses in the town, famous for the fact that Nick Faldo learnt the game here and signed his name on the walls of a number of clubhouses in the area.  The Gosling Sports Centre offers a wide range of activities from tennis to Bowls. There are scenic walks at nearby Stanborough Lakes.  There are also ancient Roman baths preserved in a steel vault underneath junction 6 of the A1 (M).

Welwyn Garden City is well served by transport with a good road network; regular trains running between London Kings Cross and Norfolk, and a frequent service by First Capital Connect to and from London Moorgate via Hitchin and Stevenage.  There are also local bus routes linking the rural areas of the borough to the main towns such as Rabley Heath, Wheathampstead and Knebworth, as well as the major airports.

The Welwyn Garden City development has been granted planning permission and it is our intention to construct 57 one and two bedroom independent assisted living retirement flats.

The perfect environment for those in retirement, homes in our assisted living retirement development will each contain a bedroom(s), living room, kitchen and bathroom containing both a bath and separate level access shower.
