The market town of Tavistock stands on the fast flowing River Tavy below the Western edge of Dartmoor National Park, and is the largest town in West Devon. Tavistock is approximately 15 miles from Plymouth and 40 miles from Exeter.

This former stannary town has Saxon beginnings, an industrial history based on tin, cloth and cooper and was the birth place of Sir Francis Drake.

The town is home to the cream tea - it was here in Medieval Times that visitors to the town's Abbey were served what has now become a delicacy all over the West Country.

In Tavistock you will find, in addition to the High Street stores, a wealth of specialist shops, boutiques, independent retailers, tea rooms, the historic Pannier Market, riverside and canal-side walks and a large range of eateries.
