New retirement apartments planned for sale in Petworth, West Sussex.

McCarthy & Stone pioneered the concept of private retirement housing in the UK and have retirement developments nationwide.

Retirement living from McCarthy & Stone however is so much more than just a retirement flat. It's designed to enable older retired home owners to lead an active, independent lifestyle, without many of the maintenance worries often associated with home ownership; all in a safe and secure environment.

The medieval town of Petworth in West Sussex is within the Golden Triangle, and home to a market square and many listed buildings, including Petworth House, the National Trust owned stately home.  It is surrounded by the beautiful grounds of Petworth Park, designed by Capability Brown and open all year round for open air concerts, picnics and countryside walks.

Situated on Station Road, these planned retirement homes will be within easy walking distance of the main market square with its antique shops, cafés and restaurants.  Petworth also has a Cottage Museum and hosts an Annual Festival, Petworth Fair and Hidden Gardens Weekend.  Located half way between Midhurst and Billingshurst on the A272 road, there is plenty of beautiful countryside all around including Cowdray Park and Castle at Midhurst, and the South Downs, recently designated as a National Park.  There are also many delightful towns and villages close by such as Pulborough; East Lavington; Haslemere; Byworth; Tillington; Upperton; Fox Hill and River.  The city of Chichester is only 20 minutes away by car.

Additional leisure activities in this area include the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum at Singleton; RSPB wildlife reserve at Pulborough Brooks; Fishers Farm Park; West Dean Gardens; Polo at Cowdray and Goodwood Racecourse and Aerodrome.

The Petworth development has received planning permission, and it is intended to start construction of independent living retirement flats for the over 60's on 2nd May 2011 with anticipated first occupations in August 2012.

The retirement apartments will be managed by a house manager who will oversee the running of the development including maintenance of the grounds and building. Key retirement living related features of the development will include a communal residents' lounge, a guest suite, laundry room and a lift that will provide access to all floors.

The perfect environment for those in retirement, homes in this retirement development will each contain a bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathroom with all two bedroom apartments having an extra toilet and hand basin to all but one apartment. All one bedroom apartments are anticipated to have the option of a bath or shower.
