Planning permission has already been granted, and construction is anticipated to start 4th April 2011 on the site just off Sea Street, with first occupations approximately one year later in April 2012.
Herne Bay is located on the south coast of the Thames Estuary and started life as a small shipping community receiving passengers on route from London to Canterbury. Nowadays, Herne is well served by transport links with a National Bus Express service; Herne Bay station on the Chatham mainline railway between Ramsgate and London Victoria; an hourly bus service to Margate, and the M2 motorway which is accessed from nearby Faversham. Stage Coach Bus services also run frequently between Whitstable and Canterbury, and serve the local areas of Broadoak; Swalecliff; Chestfield and Reculver.
The retirement apartments will be managed by a house manager who will oversee the running of the building including maintenance of the grounds and building. Key retirement living related features of the development will include a communal residents' lounge, a guest suite, laundry room and a lift that will provide access to all floors.
