Construction of Cherrett Court, assisted living retirement apartments, in Ferndown is currently underway. The development will consist of 46 one and two bedroom assisted living retirement properties, with first occupations scheduled for Summer 2010.  The development will be managed by YourLife Management Services.

This new assisted living retirement development is ideally located in the town of Ferndown, in East Dorset. Situated close to the picturesque New Forest and market towns of Ringwood, Hampshire and Wimborne, it is also close to Bournemouth. Ferndown is the fifth largest town in Dorset and also includes the communities of Hampreston, Longham and Stapehill.

The main shopping area in Ferndown includes a chemist, hairdresser, supermarket, doctor and dentist, to name a few.

King George's playing fields are located approximately half a mile from the town centre, a large area of open space for recreational and sporting activities. An area of the fields has been developed into a place to rest and enjoy the surroundings, known locally as Millennium Park. Ferndown Common also offers a beautiful place to stroll. Managed by English Nature and the Herpetological Society, this area has retained some rare local wildlife including the sand lizard, smooth snake and the Dartford warbler. Ferndown is also home to 3 golf clubs; Ferndown Golf Club, Dudsbury Golf Club and Ferndown Forest Golf Club.

Ferndown is also very well situated for travel. Bus routes link Ferndown to Bournemouth, Wimborne, Ringwood, Verwood and other surrounding towns and villages, and bus stop is located directly outside the development. The nearest train stations are located in Branksome and Bournemouth. For longer journeys the nearest airports are Bournemouth and Southampton.

Assisted living retirement housing allows people to live in their own home whilst retaining their independence. Both the retirement flats and communal areas in the retirement property are designed to enable wheelchair users to live independently. The Estates Manager will oversee the running of the retirement development, and staff will be on site 24hours a day. Key assisted living related features of Cherrett Court will include a residents' lounge, laundry room, waitress service restaurant (or in the event of illness meals can be taken to a residents flat), function room and lifts that give access to all floors. One hour of domestic assistance is available each week and further assistance can be tailored to individual needs. Each retirement flat contains a bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathroom containing both a bath and separate level access shower.
