The town is full of attractions and leisure activities.  The outdoor market has been running for over 800 years, and Hylands House and Park (dating back to 1730) now house community events and music festivals.

The Chelmsford development has now achieved planning permission to construct independent living retirement flats for the over 60's.The site is close to Central Park and Essex County Cricket Club, and a short bus ride from the pedestrianised High Street.
