New retirement apartments for sale in Dalkeith, Midlothian

McCarthy & Stone pioneered the concept of private retirement housing in the UK and have retirement developments nationwide.

Retirement living from McCarthy & Stone however is so much more than just a retirement flat. It's designed to enable older retired home owners to lead an active, independent lifestyle, without many of the maintenance worries often associated with home ownership; all in a safe and secure environment.

Bowmans View is the first development of its kind in Midlothian, and consists of 37 one and two bedroom retirement homes situated on Newmills Road in Dalkeith.  The town centre is right on the doorstep of these retirement apartments, offering a wealth of shops and amenities only 200 yards away, along with a good range of retail outlets from high street names to individual specialist shops and delicatessens.

There is a bus stop 150 metres from Bowmans View retirement flats offering a regular bus service into Edinburgh city centre, and Edinburgh Airport is easily accessible by road and rail links.

The river Esk runs through the quaint town of Dalkeith which is only 10 miles south east of Edinburgh.  Home to Dalkeith Palace and Ice House, Dalkeith also has its own country park a few miles away from Bowmans View, with 500 acres of woodland and a variety of family activities to enjoy.

In the 17th century Dalkeith hosted one of Scotland's largest markets in its exceptionally broad High Street.  In 1831 it was linked to Edinburgh by a railway line that transported coal, minerals and agricultural produce.  Two decades later, in 1853, the largest interior grain market in Scotland, the Corn Exchange, was built here.  Gladstone first started his campaign for British Prime Minister here in 1879, and the resulting campaign became known as The Midlothian Campaign.
