Short Story Competition

Put pen to paper for your chance to win £200.

You may have heard of Silver Surfers but have you heard of Silver Scribblers? A new initiative encouraging people over 60 to get writing has been launched by reading charity Booktrust and retirement developer McCarthy & Stone is getting right behind the campaign by launching a short story competition exclusively for retirees in Kent and Sussex!

We are inviting anyone over 60 to put pen to paper and write a short story based on the theme of ‘home'. This could include the home you live in, your home country, the place you call home, or the memories of your childhood home - the possibilities are endless.

We are looking for a short story of no longer then 2000 words. The closing date for entries is Friday 30th April 2010.

All entries will be judged by Caroline Hardy, feature writer at the Sussex Courier, who has won a number of prizes for her own short stories.

The lucky winner will see their story published on thisissussex.co.uk. The winner will also receive a cheque for £200 and a bound copy of their story. What's more, all entrants will be invited to attend an event at which the three shortlisted stories will be read out and the winner announced.

To enter, simply email your story to This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it   or drop your entry into one of McCarthy & Stone's selected developments listed below:
