Princess Anne opens retirement flats

Maple Tree Court, McCarthy & Stone’s retirement development in Old Market, Nailsworth, was officially opened on Friday 17th October 2008 by Her Royal Highness Princess Anne, The Princess Royal.

The development is named Maple Tree Court after two nearby Canadian Maple Trees planted by the Princess in 1978.

Her Royal Highness was received by the Vice Lord Lieutenant of Gloucestershire, Major John Eyre and introduced to McCarthy & Stone operations director Derek Field and other staff.

She then toured a ground floor show apartment and visited the apartment of Rosemary Murrells, 76, who was one of the first people to move into Maple Tree Court at the beginning of August this year.

Said Rosemary "The Princess spotted a statue of a famous race horse called Best Mate in my flat and we chatted about horse racing, although I'm not one to gamble!  She was very natural and really put me at my ease.  I will treasure the memory of meeting her forever."

The Princess Royal joined McCarthy & Stone staff and the residents of Maple Tree Court for light refreshments before unveiling a plaque in the central lounge to declare the development officially open.

Before departing, the Princess signed the visitors' book in the entrance lobby of Maple Tree Court.

Those presented to Her Royal Highness included regional sales and marketing director Aileen King, regional design director Robert Morrissey, Maple Tree Court house manager Lisa Cobbley-Wood, area sales manager Jacqui Meenan and Steve Reed, the site manager who oversaw the construction of the development.

Also in attendance were Mavis Lady Dunrossil, Chairman of Gloucestershire County Council, Councillor John Hudson, Chairman of Stroud District Council, and Councillor Norman Kay, Mayor of Nailsworth Town Council.

Maple Tree Court, which enjoys a central location close to all the amenities of Nailsworth, has been designed to provide a secure yet independent lifestyle for people aged 60 and over.

Apartments are easy to clean and look after, and external maintenance and gardening are taken care of by a service team.

Each apartment is connected to a 24-hour Careline system as well as to a TV camera security entrance system. There is a lift to all floors, a laundry room, a guest suite and a landscaped garden.
