Former British Olympic champion, Dame Mary Peters DBE LL, was the guest of honour as McCarthy & Stone celebrated the official opening of its Retirement Living development, Brooklands Court in Long Eaton.

Dame Mary, pentathlon gold medallist at the 1972 Olympic Games, formally marked the opening of the development, cutting the ribbon alongside McCarthy & Stone’s regional managing director, Richard Williams, during an exclusive ceremony at the Tamworth Road development last week.

Those who attended the event took the opportunity to explore the development’s fully furnished show complex and communal facilities, finding out more about Retirement Living, and got a unique opportunity to meet and talk with Dame Mary Peters.

Richard Williams, regional managing director for McCarthy & Stone, said: “The official opening of Brooklands Court signalled an important milestone in the development’s history, so we were delighted to have someone of Dame Mary’s stature here to help us mark the occasion in style. The day was a huge success and we look forward to welcoming retirees living in and around Long Eaton to the development to have a look around the remaining apartments. ”

Brooklands Court is a Later Living development offering people over the age of 60 continued home ownership, independence and security in a low maintenance property. The development comprises a stylish collection of one bedroom apartments that include a number of thoughtful design features.

The light and airy open lounge and dining room adjoins a well appointed kitchen comprising modern fitted units, a built in oven and hob plus a fridge freezer. The double bedroom includes fitted wardrobes, a telephone point and TV aerial socket for added convenience and the modern bathroom benefits from easy grip lever taps, a built in vanity unit and a heated towel rail.  And for added security, each apartment has 24 hour emergency call points, a video entry system and double glazing throughout.

Residents can also enjoy landscaped gardens that are regularly maintained by an external company, socialise and relax in the communal lounge and invite family or friends to stay at the development’s hotel style guest suite.  There is also a house manager who oversees the running of the development, for additional peace of mind.

Prices currently start at £119,950. For further information, visit the development, open Tuesday to Saturday from 10.30am to 5.00pm, call 0115 9723590 or log on to www.mccarthyandstone.co.uk
