Over the past 30 years, the McCarthy & Stone Group has become Britain's leading builder of retirement apartments, responsible for the construction of more than 40,000 homes for more than 45,000 customers.

Just five years after building our first apartments in New Milton, Hampshire, McCarthy & Stone became a public limited company, and in 1984, achieved full listing on the London Stock Exchange.

The following years saw further success and expansion, with the late Diana, Princess of Wales, opening a new, purpose-built head office in 1987, and an Assisted Living Division being established in 1999 to develop housing to bridge the gap between conventional retirement developments and residential care.

In 2006 McCarthy and Stone reverted to private ownership. The principal stakeholder in McCarthy & Stone is HBOS, Britain's largest mortgage provider. Its 22 million customers include those with Halifax and Bank of Scotland.

The Bank's assets of over £540 billion provide a sound base for everyone in McCarthy & Stone's domain, from land vendors to residents themselves.
